One person has been killed after a magnitude six-point-seven earthquake jolted northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. According to the China Earthquake Networks Center, the quake hit Akto County in Kizilsu Kirghiz Autonomous Prefecture on Friday night, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
An emergency response has been activated, and a working team has been sent to the quake-hit area. The area is sparsely populated. But several old and dilapidated buildings were found to be cracked or damaged. Residents living in such buildings have been transferred and relocated.
