Chinese President Xi Jinping has met with Spain’s Deputy Prime Minister, Soraya Saenz de Santamaria, on the Spanish island Gran Canaria.The meeting comes during a 20-hour stopover for President Xi as he makes his way back from a three-nation tour of Latin America that saw him visit Ecuador, Peru and Chile.

Xi said both countries are in an important era that has great potential for cooperation in trade, investment, green energy and cultural exchange. Saenz said that Spain is willing to become the bridge between China and the EU.

Spanish media reported that Xi and his wife Peng Liyuan will visit the House of Christopher Columbus cultural center on their their final stop before returning to China.
