With the Thanksgiving Day upon America,  consumers in the United States are set to welcome in two important sales events: Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Are there any differences between this year's shopping season and ones past?

The National Retail Federation says that about 137 million Americans will join the shopping season in the next few days. That accounts for 59 percent of the country's total population, slightly higher than last year's 58.7 percent.

Data also shows that 21 percent of all Americans plan to shop on Thanksgiving Day, while 74 percent will join in the Black Friday buying spree.

It's estimated that Cyber Monday's sales will rise about 9.4 percent from a year ago to 3.36 billion U.S. dollars. Online purchases is still a trendy choice in the country.

There are several drivers behind the rising sales figures, including attractive discounts.

Analysts pointed out that because President-elect Donald Trump has promised to cut taxes after taking office, American are more willing to spend extra during this year's shopping season.

Meanwhile, Chinese tourists are also expected to contribute to the holiday sales. Go-USA, Chinese tourists spent more than 30 billion U.S. dollars last year. Shopping accounts for 34 percent to 44 percent of the total expenditure.

Branded shoes and bags, vitamins, supplements and baby products top Chinese buyers' shopping list.
