The People's Bank of China set a softer midpoint rate for the yuan at 6.8904 on Wednesday, 125 basis points weaker than its previous fix.

The offshore yuan made sharp declines on the PBOC's official guidance rate fixing and traded around 6.9209 against the dollar in the afternoon session.
