The Library Center of China opened its doors this week in the Peruvian Capital, Lima. Peruvians now have a new resource to get to know China better, through books covering topics on China including history, culture, literature, traditional medicine, martial arts and modern China.

The Library Center of China opened its doors this week in the Peruvian Capital, Lima.

Other cultural exchange activities between the two countries are also taking place, as Chinese President Xi Jinping has just finished his state visit to Peru.

This is the first Chinese library in Latin America. A small exhibition about the history of Chinese characters, writing tools, and the invention of paper and movable type printing was presented to celebrate the opening of the center.

Huang Kunming, executive deputy director of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, hosted the library launch ceremony.

The Library Center of China opened its doors this week in the Peruvian Capital, Lima.

He calls it "a living room for the Chinese and Peruvian cultural intelligentsia" and says the center will serve as a window to showcase Chinese culture to Peruvians. 

Initially stocked with 1,000 gifted copies of books, the center is planned to be gradually expanded with about 300 books added every year. The initial installment of books are 60 percent in Spanish and 40 percent in Chinese. Seminars on Chinese culture are also planned. 

Meanwhile, other activities introducing Chinese culture to Peru are also taking place, like traditional Chinese operas and art exhibitions.
