A magnitude 6.3 earthquake struck central New Zealand on Tuesday. The quake took place 138 kilometers off the coast of the country’s North Island at a depth of 37 kilometers.

Only a little more than a week ago, a magnitude 7.8 tremor rocked New Zealand’s South Island and killed two people. Thousands of aftershocks have been registered since the quake on November 14.
