The Asia-Pacific region is an important part of the world economy. Xi says APEC plays a key role in promoting Asia-Pacific regional and global economic development.
Xi says because of ever-shifting conditions and new global challenges, APEC member economies must take effective measures to make full use of the leading role the region plays, and promote the development of innovation and inclusiveness.
Xi highlighted the importance of globalization, saying APEC members must unswervingly lead the world economy to a more inclusive direction, and oppose all forms of protectionism. He expressed his hope for the promotion of multilateral trade and the establishment of the Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific region.
Xi also welcomes the docking of China’s “One Belt and One Road” initiative with other strategic and cooperation initiatives of all concerned parties.
Xi says since China joined APEC 25 years ago, the country has prioritized the opening up of the Asia-Pacific region. He says with the Bogor Goals in 2020 approaching, APEC members should step up planning for a longer-term vision of cooperation. He added that China is willing to work with all parties to promote regional economic integration.
Xi also pointed out that 2016 marks the first year of the implementation of the 2030 sustainable development agenda. He said APEC should take action to jointly promote development in this area.
