Russian President Vladimir Putin says Moscow and Washington both want to improve bilateral relations.
"The newly-elected American president confirmed his intention to normalize the relationship between the US and Russia. Naturally, I did the same. We've always been speaking about this," he said.
Putin says he met with US President Barack Obama and promised him a warm welcome in Russia. He says the Kremlin sees threats to the world economy after Britain's vote to leave the EU. The Russian president says he hopes the danger can be avoided. Putin also made a comment on Russia's peace treaty with Japan.
He says both countries are interested in the deal. Putin says he is "ready for dialogue" toward resolving the islands issue, adding that "there are various options" for settling the row. He likewise says the country is ready to freeze its oil output at the current level.
"We're ready to freeze oil output at the present level. We see no harm in this for our energy sector. The energy minister is in constant contact with the leading oil companies, and they're ready for such work," Putin said.
