China has released a set of guidelines aimed at improving the national standard for public health. As many as ten departments were involved in the initiative, including the National Health and Family Planning Commission, and the Department of the Environment.
They're basically keen to get more people active -- and they hope to dramatically increase the amount of people getting regular exercise by 2020. To help the younger generation get into the habit of exercising, the government is recommending that students get at least one hour of exercise every day. All of this added exercise is going to put a strain on resources, of course, but the guidelines also aim to create more dedicated public facilities.
But it's not just in China where this is a problem. In the United States, as little as eight percent of young people get the standard 60 minutes of exercise every day. The average teenager there only gets 23 minutes of daily exercise.
