Ecuador is an important trade partner of China in South America.Bilateral trade was down 4.1 percent year-on-year in 2015 to U.S.$4.13 billion.
In the breakdown, imports from Ecuador reached U.S.$1.24 billion, up 16.4 percent from the previous year. China’s exports to Ecuador were off 10.9 percent to U.S.$2.89 billion.
Ecuador mainly imports Chinese machinery, automobiles and steel products. China’s imports from Ecuador include crude oil, bananas and fish powder.
Meanwhile, China’s investment to Ecuador hit U.S.$6.03 billion dollars in 2015, while Ecuador’s investment to China was U.S.$8.63 million.
