President Xi will visit Ecuador, Peru and Chile in the coming week. In Peru, he will attend the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting. President Xi is the first Chinese president to visit Ecuador since diplomatic relations were established three decades ago.
CCTV sits down with Ecuador's Foreign Minister Guillaume Long. He says he's optimistic bilateral ties will continue to improve.
Long said, "Ties between China and Ecuador have progressed at an unprecedented rate over the past decade. We believe the relationship can serve as a model for other Latin American nations. We work with China closely on the economy, trade and investment."
"Our President Correa has visited China. President Xi Jinping is visiting our country with a delegation of officials and entrepreneurs. We will greet and thank them for their help when Ecuador was hit by a major earthquake."
"We can also explore new business opportunities for companies from both nations and new areas of cooperation between the two governments. We will be able to strengthen our relations like brothers, and that will be marvellous."
