Hong Kong's High Court has disqualified two legislators-elect for using language insulting the Chinese nation while taking their oath, which violated the Basic Law and local laws.

The ruling came after the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government and Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying filed a judicial review last month. It opposed the decision by the president of the Legislative Council to give the pair a second chance to be sworn in. The two legislators-elect, Leung Chung-hang and Yau Wai-ching, used derogatory language insulting the Chinese nation when being sworn in on Saturday (Oct. 12).  Their oaths were declared invalid.
