Kurdish forces have recaptured the town of Bashiqa near Mosul from Islamic State militants. Peshmerga forces, however, said around 5-percent of the town remains under ISIL control, as suicide bombers and snipers were still there.
Authorities say seizing Bashiqa would be the final step in securing the eastern approaches to Mosul as the government attempts to liberate it from militant control.
