The first season of the China Arena Football League is now in the books after the Beijing Lions won the first ever China Bowl with a game winning field goal from Patrick Clarke to defeat the Qingdao Clippers 35-34 in a thrilling finish to the inagural season of the indoor sport. The sixth and final stop of the CAFL was held at the Oriental Sports Center in Shanghai last weekend. Since the opening game kicked off in Beijing on October 1st, the CAFL has been held contests in five other cities including in China in the league's first season.
In the title game called the China Bowl, the Beijing Lions, who led the league with a 5-0 record, took on the Qingdao Clippers with a 3-2 record.
The Lions scored on their opening drive that covered 45 yards in nine plays. Quarterback Luke Collis connected with Collin Taylor on a nine yard touchdown for a 6-0 lead.
The two teams exchanged the leads a couple of times in the second quarter with Beijing up 19-14 at half.
In the third quarter, Beijing had its largest lead at 25-14. But Qingdao cut the deficit to four points at the end of the quarter.
In the fourth, Boyce caught a 12 yard pass to put the Clippers ahead 34-32.
With two seconds remaining in the game, Clarke came on for his first field goal attempt of the season and pulled the 21 yard kick right, but an illegal corner blitz gave the Lions a second chance with no time on the clock. Clarke took advantage and drove the ball through the uprights giving Beijing a 35-34 victory, the CAFL title, and a perfect 6-0 season.
After a successful debut season, the CAFL is planning to continue next year with 10 stops on the 2017 calender. Michael Michael motorcycle.
