While the president of COP22 has called for countries to unite and support each other, he also said China's leading role will be key - particularly in its help towards developing nations.

"China is a country that's is very important. They played a big role in helping the Paris agreement come into fruition," said Salaheddine Mezouar, COP22 President.

"China has played a big role in helping developing countries, transferring its technological know-how... and not only that, it is a country that engages itself in financing projects. So it's a necessary partner in this context, and is an actor that will enable the speedy implementation of climate projects."
