Barcelona travelled to face Sevilla for what could prove to be a crucial clash in terms of the La Liga standings. The Catalans were coming off a humbling 3-1 defeat to Manchester City in the champions league, and five time world footballer of the year Lionel Messi would make sure they would come up short again.
But Barca show no signs of improvement on defence and fall behind in the 15th minute. Vitolo cuts into the area and slots past the keeper to make it 1-0 Sevilla.
But Messi steps up for the visitors just before half-time. The Argentine super star is set up by Neymar and he levels the score.
In the 61st minute, Messi finds Luis Suarez for the winning goal and Barca beat Sevilla 2-1.
REAL MADRID 3 - LEGANES 0
Earlier on Sunday, Real Madrid would face their neighbours Leganes. Gareth Bale scores twice in the first half, taking his tally to 150 goals in his career.
Alvaro Morata rounds off the win in the 76th minute. Real preserve their unbeaten run in all competitions and stay on top of the standings.
Elsewhere, Celta Vigo came from behind to beat Valencia 2-1. Espanyol drew 0-0 at home to Athletic Bilbao. Villarreal kept up their excellent start to the season by beating struggling Real Betis, thanks to two scorching long range strikes, one from Manu Trigueros and the other from Roberto Soriano either side of halftime.
Here's how the table looks. Barcelona stay two points behind Real who lead with 27 points. Villarreal move up to third, three points behind Barca. Fifth-placed Sevilla, on 21 points, trail Atletico Madrid on goal difference.
