Men's tennis will have a new world number one on Monday when Andy Murray takes the top spot in the new ATP rankings. The Scot advanced to the final of the Paris Masters without hitting a ball after Canadian Milos Raonic withdrew with a torn quad and will move past Novak Djokovic after the Serb was eliminated in the quarter-finals.

Djoker has held the top spot since July of 2014, but that honour now goes to Murray, who is the first Briton to get to number one and, at 29 years and 174 days, the second oldest player to reach the summit for the first time behind Australian John Newcombe who did it at 30 in 1974.

"I didn't really react, I didn't really react...my team were a bit different but I didn't really react at the time. The most satisfying thing really is (it) being such a difficult thing to do during my career because of how good the guys around me have been.. the guys ahead of me. Even this year, the year that I've had to have to even be there for one week and be, like, 20 points ahead or whatever it is. You know, I've had to win so many matches and get to the latter stages of pretty much every tournament that I've played, so it's just been... it's been really, really hard to do it, really difficult," Murray said.
