Full coverage: Cross-Strait Peaceful Development Forum

The leader of Taiwan’s Kuomintang party, Hung Hsiu-chu, arrived in Nanjing on Sunday evening, to begin a five-day visit to the Chinese Mainland.

This is Hung’s first visit to the Mainland since she became the head of KMT in March.

This morning she will pay her respects at the Mausoleum of Sun Yat-sen, the founder of KMT. She will leave for Beijing and meet with Communist Party leader Xi Jinping on Tuesday, and attend the Cross-Strait forum to be held on Wednesday.

Before her departure, Hung said the aim of this trip is to promote the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations.

“Peace, it is a trip of peace. We wish to create a peaceful cross-strait relationship. Because communication is hampered, we feel that the temperature of the civil exchange should be maintained. We will continue to push the cross-strait civil exchange, to make sure it will not be suspended and will achieve some good results,” Huang said.
