The world’s youngest and most ambitious design week is back to enthral design lovers, creators and influencers. Dubai Design Week is in it’s second year in the Dubai Design District and various other iconic locations around the city.
Design is big in Dubai, as the Dubai Design Week sees some 150 design-related exhibitions, fairs and events taking place across the emirate.
Returning headline exhibitions include Global Grad Show, Downtown Design, Abwab and Iconic City, as well as various site-specific installations, talks and workshops.
This installation at the India Pavillion allows visitors to capture a memory in a hexagonal floor tile.
Visitors can write their memories on paper and choose one bucket of cement to blend the paper with it.
There are 6 different colors to choose from, with each color representing a specific kind of emotion.
"Today I wrote down my memories on paper and buried them in the concrete, and we've also selected a color for a specific feeling, like yellow for love and white for happiness," said visitor Reem Alkutbi.
If the Indian Pavillon aims to shake up people's memories, then this interactive installation at the Algeria Pavillion tries to wake up their ears.
Surrounded by abstract paintings representing the beat of drums, visitors are encouraged to have a go on the Algerian drums, and spread the fun.
"I came from north Africa and we like to sing and play with different musical instruments. So we've decided to let the audience experience our unique musical culture, and it's all about stimulating different senses, they can sing or dance to the drumbeat, anything they want," said designer Hellal Zoubir.
This year’s event hopes to improve on last year's impressive 23,000 visitors. It concludes on Saturday.
