WPBSA International Championship: Ding defeats Walden 6-5

The International Championship of snooker is being held in Daqing, in Heilongjiang province. China's Ding Junhui was looking to move into the last eight, but he would face a stiff test as he battled world number six Ricky Walden.

The pair split the opening two frames, but Ding is able to put the pink down, and with that grab a 2-1 lead.

The Chinese would play cautiously in the fourth frame -- getting the snooker on the yellow.

Walden would be snookered four times -- giving up 16 points in the process.

Ding would continue with that tactic, and has his opponent snookered on the green.

Walden escaped the snooker, but left the table open for Ding.

The Chinese went on a run of 98. and with that takes a 3-1 lead. But the Englishman did catch up and levels the score at 5-5.

In the decisive frame, both players would play defensively. Walden falters on a couple of shots -- failing to get this brown. Ding did sink the brown, blue and pink and after over 40 minutes struggle for the decisive frame, Ding moves to the quarter-finals after a 6-5 triumph. 

SELBY EDGES PAST LIANG 6-5

Local favourite Liang Wenbo was battling world champion Mark Selby. Things would be close, and the Chinese would hold a 5-4 edge.

In the tenth frame, Liang sinks the yellow ball but scratches giving Selby a chance to level the score. The eleventh frame Liang cannot cut the red into the corner.

Selby would then take over the table and promptly finish things off -- prevailing 6-5.

HOLT OVERCOMES SULLIVAN 6-4

In other action, the ' Rocket' Ronnie O' Sullivan is trailing Michael Holt.

Holt had a 53 breaks in the eighth frame and is one frame from victory.

But the Rocket gets a break of 76 to save one match point.

However, O' Sullivan could not continue his run, and falls in 10 frames, losing his third match of the year to O'Sullivan.
