China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang says most of Duterte's remarks in Japan are in line with what he said during his visit to China. 

''What President Duterte has said in Japan is consistent with what he said in China. The Chinese and Philippine governments have reached consensus that we should focus on cooperation and shelve disputes. This includes the South China Sea issue that cannot be resolved for the time being. President Duterte has also mentioned in Japan that he hoped to settle differences through negotiations and consultations with China," he said.
