In Iraq, at least 24 people were killed after Islamic State launched a major assault on the city of Kirkuk on Friday.
The assault came as Iraqi and Kurdish forces advance on Mosul in preparation for an offensive on the jihadists' last major stronghold in the country. The extremists attacked several police stations and a power plant near the city.
Reuters quoted hospital sources as saying they have seen 18 deaths, including security forces and some workers. Iran's Foreign Ministry announced that four Iranian technicians were killed at the power plant.
