In Olympics news, IOC president Thomas Bach has said they are open to holding some of the events at the Tokyo 2020 Games in Japan's nuclear disaster area Fukushima in order to send a stong message to residents still recovering from the earthquake and tsunami. Bach also addressed the growing budget issues as the new governor of Tokyo has demanded that spiralling costs for the Olympics be brought under control.
"The IOC is studying to hold some sport event in the disaster affected area (of Fukushima). With this an important message of solidarity to the local population that is suffering so much can be sent," Bach said.
"It is very clear that nobody has an interest in soaring costs. For its part, the IOC has the strongest interest to show that the Olympic games can be organised in a feasible and sustainable way," Bach said.
