China's foreign ministry has said President Duterte's visit will focus on enhancing friendship and cooperation, adding that they are keen to begin a fresh chapter in bilateral relations.

"We have noticed President Duterte's sincere trust. China hopes to manage related issues properly, to open a new page for both. We will go back to the track of bilateral talks to resolve the South China Sea disputes, and this is what should be done through friendship and in a flexible manner. In terms of who our friends are and how should we solve problems, we have our own judgement. The anti-drug campaign is a prioritised concern of the Philippines president. This is an effort based on his people's fundamental rights, and to improve social security. We appreciate this. We are also willing to discuss with the Philippines cooperation in drug-prohibition and combating drug-related crimes," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said.
