Mexican architect Javier Senosiain showcases his work based on an innovative concept that combines organic and nature with architecture. An exhibition of his work is being displayed in Mexico City.
45 minutes from Mexico City, stands a 10-unit apartment complex in the shape of mythological Aztec snake. Designed by Mexican architect Javier Senosiain, it serves as model of sustainability in a metropolitan area characterized by urban sprawl. Here water is captured from the rain and the residents harvest their own food.
"The concept of organic architecture is that seeks harmony between human beings and the natural environment," Senosiain said.
Inspired by the work of Spanish architect Antoni Gaud , Senosiain calls his creations Bio Architecture.
A retrospective of his work is being displayed here at Mexico City's Palace of Fine Arts. The exhibition includes his proposal for an eco village that he says can serve as model for low-income housing.
His plan includes building nearly 60 --28-square-meter micro-homes where all services would be centralized.
"From the farthest house you can get to the center of this Eco village with a 10 minute walk. From there, the residents can go exercise or take their kids to school. The intention is that they don't have to leave the village," he said.
The exhibition is an opportunity for young generations to see Senosiain's organic architecture. 23-year-old student Freddy Arellano believes city officials should take a closer look at Senosiain's proposals, which bypass the typical large apartment complex's popular in Mexico City in favor of housing that take less space.
"There are many areas that don't have enough space for big construction projects. But I think if we apply this new type of architecture it could help the inequality gap in Mexico," said Freddy Arellano, exhibition visitor.
Housing builders haven't shown interest in Senosiain's development proposal but he believes this type of sustainable architecture maybe the only hope for making sprawling metropolis more livable in the future.
