Chinese President Xi Jinping has urged BRICS nations to cement confidence amid challenges, and work together for further development.
Xi was speaking at the annual BRICS summit in the western Indian state of Goa. He said a “complicated and severe external environment” poses challenges to the emerging-market bloc, but with joint efforts, the bloc is capable of boosting growth and stability of the world. He made a five-point proposal.

Xi called on BRICS leaders to build an open economy while warning against all forms of protectionism. He stressed members should implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the outcomes of the G20 Hangzhou Summit, strengthen South-North dialogues and South-South cooperation.
Xi also proposed better coordination to resolve global issues such as terrorism and climate change. He called for strengthening partnership while striving for a strong, sustainable, balanced and inclusive global growth.
