Autumn is a harvest season. At the invitation of Bangladeshi President Abdul Hamid, Chinese President Xi Jinping paid a state visit to Bangladesh on October 14-15, the first by a Chinese head of state in the last 30 years to the South Asian nation. It embodies the significance of milestone for China-Bangladesh ties.

During the visit, President Xi met with his Bangladeshi counterpart Abdul Hamid , and Bangladeshi National Assembly Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury. President Xi also held talks with Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, reaching a series of important consensus and outcome. Both sides unanimously decided to upgrade the bilateral ties to a strategic cooperative partnership. Public opinions hold that Xi’s visit has promoted the Sino- Bangladesh traditional friendship into a new level, and bears historic significance to bilateral relations.

President Xi's visit is a trip for connecting the Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation and the "Sonar Bangla" dream of national strength and prosperity  and docking the development strategies of the two nations.

The Belt and Road Initiative, proposed by Xi in 2013, comprises the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. Bangladesh is an important state en rout the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. During Xi’s visit, both countries signed a series of cooperation documents to boost the docking of the development strategies of both nations and promote the construction of Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar Economic Corridor into a new level.

President Xi's visit is fruitful in promoting the Sino-Bangladesh friendship, serving as a new model for Beijing’s periphery diplomacy of amity, sincerity, mutual benefit and inclusiveness and South-South cooperation.
