The mobile internet sector has great potential in India. Fresh data shows that the number of internet users in India reached 40 million last year. That was second in the world only to China.
Still, the number of smartphone users in India accounts for less than one ninth of the country's population. That drives many tech developers to come up with more apps.
Some of the developers have chosen to "Copy from China" by creating apps similar to ones in wide use in China. That includes Paytm, a payment app that's modeled on China's Alipay.
Paytm founder Vijay Sharma says that both China and India have huge consumer bases. Sharma says the success of China's Alibaba Group showed him the potential of the internet. He also says he would like to see India and China playing leading roles in boosting the world's emerging economies.
Indian President Pranab Mukherjee said Wednesday that India wants to deepen its cooperation with China in a variety of areas, including politics, trade, and people-to-people exchanges.
