Full coverage: Li Meets Leaders of Portuguese-speaking Countries in Macao

China and especially the special autonomous region of Macao have developed strong relations with the world's Portuguese-speaking countries, otherwise known as PSCs. Between 2013 and 2015, the total volume of trade between China and Portuguese-speaking countries exceeded 360 billion US dollars. Last year, it was around 100 billion US dollars.

China is the biggest trading partner for a number of Portuguese-speaking countries, including: Portugal, Cape Verde, and Brazil. In fact, China has been Brazil's largest trading partner for the past seven years in a row. Chinese foreign direct investment in Portuguese-speaking countries has reached over 6 billion US dollars. And Chinese investors have established more than 400 enterprises in PSCs.

The fields of cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries has expanded greatly over the past ten years, to include:  trade, investment, finance, law, infrastructure and agriculture.

Cultural and language exchanges are also on the rise. Portuguese is considered an important business language in China. And today, a record number of Portuguese speakers are learning Chinese.  To keep up with growing interest, 17 Confucius Institutes have been established in PSCs, while more than 20 universities in China offer majors in Portuguese.
