China and Uzbekistan have met seven times in official competitions with the PRC recording two wins, one draw and four losses against the Uzbeks.
The most famous meeting between the sides dates back to 2001. China beat Uzbekistan 2-0 in the last 10 of 2002 World Cup qualification. Goals from Li Weifeng and Fan Zhiyi helped China grab three points and pave the way for the country's only advance to the finals of the world football showpiece.
The next three meetings all took place in the group stage of the AFC Asian Cup. In 2007, Uzbekistan thrashed China 3-0 sending them out of the group stage of the competition for the first time in 27 years.
Following a 2-2 draw in 2011, China managed to take revenge in the latest Asian Cup in Australia. Ren Hang volleyed in the equalizer after falling 1-0 down. Sun Ke hit the winner from outside the box to hand China a 2-1 victory.
The game tonight will be the eighth meeting between the two countries, and China will look to duplicate their success from 2015.
