US President Barack Obama has issued an executive order to lift economic sanctions on Myanmar.

Obama announced that the US was ready to make this change during Myanmar State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi's visit to Washington last month.

The Treasury Department said in a statement that the economic and financial sanctions are no longer in effect. Washington said this is to display support and facilitate bilateral trade.
