Hurricane Matthew has killed one person in the US state of Florida. Governor Rick Scott says around 600,000 homes in the state are without power. He's warned of significant flooding in the Jacksonville area and urged around 1.5f million residents in coastal areas to evacuate. US authorities forecast waves up to 2.5 meters high. Matthew has been downgraded to a Category 3 storm, but gusts of up to 195 kilometers per hour have been reported.

Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina are under a state of emergency, and mass evacuations are underway. Matthew left a path of destruction in the Caribbean, killing at least 572 people in Haiti and four in neighboring Dominican Republic. The United Nations weather agency has said the storm is expected to cause massive damage across Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.
