While many countries and regions are excited to have flocks of Chinese mainland tourists pour in during the National Day holiday, Taiwan is seeing fewer visitors.

The island's authorities report that this year's golden week has had only 4-thousand to 5-thousand mainland tourists apply for entry on a per day basis. That's only around half of the number last year.

At one of the most scenic spots in central Taiwan, Sun Moon Lake is seeing fewer visitors as the number of mainland tourists has dropped by around 80 percent when compared to last year's numbers.

Taiwan media have blamed deteriorating cross-strait relations for the slump.
