At least seven people have been confirmed dead after a massive landslide in east China's Zhejiang province. 15 survivors were found so far, while 20 people remain missing as of Saturday.

Typhon Megi made landfall on Zhejiang on Wednesday and caused the deadly landslide that hit Sucun village. The landslide brought 400,000 cubic meters of debris down on the village swallowing it within seconds. Local authorities took immediate measures.

More than four thousand people have been mobilized for the rescue efforts. Excavators, life-detection equipment, dogs and drones were also brought in. Rescue crews have been working around the clock to search for and save any remaining survivors. Although the vital first 72 hours have already passed, the rescue operation is still ongoing.

Rescuers are clinging to even the slightest possibility of saving one more life. For more on this, we earlier talked to our reporter He Weiwei in Lishui.

Behind me is the devastating aftermath of the landslide that hit Sucun village earlier this week, having left at least 20 houses buried beneath mud and debris. You can clearly see the trace and path of the landslide and how rocks poured down, coming from some 420-meters up on the mountain. And the landslide has done more than just bury the houses of the village, it's also blocked a river, causing rescue work even more difficult.

At the very core site, two groups of roughly 20 excavators are working. They are separated into two groups. One group searches for missing people, while the other group digs ditches to divert water from a barrier lake that has so far been problematic and dangerous. If the barrier lake is to collapse, floods will definitely destroy the houses downstream.

More than 4,000 personnel have been deployed to take part in the rescue operation. They come from a variety of government departments, including military forces and police forces. They continue their search for the missing - with equipment including 43 life detectors, 4 aerial drones and 180 machines and rescue vehicles.

After the landslide, around 1,500 residents have been evacuated from the area. But on Saturday morning, when I was on my way to the Sucun village, I saw that dozens of villagers are return to their homes with simple luggage. That’s because the affected area is only a small part of the village, there are more houses located in a relatively further area away from the mountain so those areas are safe now. That’s why the villages are returning. With the rescue operation going on, lives of the villagers are returning to normal gradually.
