Full coverage: 67th Chinese National Day
The peak travel period for the National Day holiday began Friday night.
During the holiday period, automobiles that hold fewer than seven people can travel toll-free. The Ministry of Transport expects 650 million people will hit the nation's roads, with the average daily figure at more than 90 million. National railway officials expect to see 110 million passengers, up 11 percent from a year earlier.
On Saturday, the number of passengers traveling from Beijing's southern railway station is expected to reach 190-thousand... 80,000 more than the usual average daily figure.
To absorb the greater load, more than 100 round-trips by high-speed train have been added between Beijing and Shanghai. Temporary routes have also been added to Tianjin, Qingdao, Jinan and Changchun.
