China has donated hundreds of thousands of books to Al Azhar University of Indonesia for the opening of a brand new library on campus. It's part of an effort to enhance cooperation between the two countries in the educational field. The donation was made up of some 6,000 Chinese books and newspapers, covering politics, economics, military, history and other fields, as well as thousands of English works.

Currently there are only 500 Chinese students who are studying in Indonesia, whereas about 14,000 Indonesian students are pursuing higher education at different universities in China. Al Azhar University of Indonesia warmly welcomed the book donation and hopes it will help academics improve the quality of education and public service. The opening of the Chinese library at the university is part of a series of Chinese cultural programs being held on September 27 and 28.
