At WTA's Wuhan Open, there would be an all-China affair in the opening round, as Peng Shuai would battle Zhang Shuai. Their previous encounter was at the China Open in Beijing in 2013, with Zhang coming out on top.
The opening set would need a tiebreaker to be settled, and it goes to Peng as she gets this volley at the net for the winner, and takes the frame.
Second set and Zhang has two break points, and seems to be on the defensive on this point, as Peng dictates play and looks to have her compatriot on the ropes, before Zhang unleashes a backhand lob that manages to go over her opponent's head and stay in. Zhang gets the break to go up 5-3, and takes the frame 6-3.
Peng would then request a medical time-out.
Off to the decider, and Zhang is able to put the match away with a backhand winner down the line, as she prevails 5-7, 6-3, 6-4.
