Chinese conglomerate Wanda Group is aiming to be the world's No. 1 tourism company in five years. The group's chairman Wang Jianlin was speaking at the opening ceremony of an amusement park in the eastern Chinese city of Hefei over the weekend.
The park is part of the five-billion-dollar Hefei Wanda City, which also includes a theme park, hotels and shopping malls. It follows Nanchang Wanda City, which opened three months ago in Jiangxi province, and attracted more than two million tourists in a month.
Wang said Wanda planned to open 15 such cities at home and five more abroad by 2020. Analysts say, by then, there will be 59 theme parks in China catering for about 220 million customers, equivalent to that of the United States.
