Police in Brazil have arrested a former finance minister as part of the investigation into the political scandal involving state oil company Petrobras.
Guido Mantega, who also served as the chairman of the controversial company, was arrested at a hospital in Sao Paulo on Thursday. Mantega served under presidents Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Dilma Rousseff. He is a prominent member of the Workers’ Party.
In 2012, Mantega is alleged to have requested a payment of 5 million reais (about U.S.$2.5 million)to benefit the Workers’ Party. Mantega has yet to give a response.
