To the Democratic Republic of the Congo and China says all its citizens trapped in two days of clashes in the capital Kinshasa have been evacuated.

It comes hours after the UN Security Council held talks over the security situation there.

"In the latest clashes in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, we noticed a number of Chinese shops were robbed and also several Chinese citizens trapped," said Lu Kang, spokesperson of Chinese Foreign Ministry.

"China is highly concerned about the situation there. We have called on the local government to severely punish those involved, and to ensure the security and interests of our citizens and institutions."

Lu also said China hopes all sides can sit down and solve disputes through negotiations. Police in the country said at least 32 people have been killed this week during two days of violence in Kinshasa.

During clashes between police and opponents of President Joseph Kabila, people were burned alive and police positions attacked. It is the worst unrest in the capital since January last year.
