Climate change has also been on the agenda at the U.N. General Assembly. During the meeting, a further 31 countries signed the Paris Agreement to curb greenhouse gas emissions

Those countries included Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico, as well as major fossil fuel producers Brunei and the United Arab Emirates. The agreement will come into force once it has been ratified by 55 countries, accounting for at least 55 percent of worldwide greenhouse gas emissions.

So far, 60 countries accounting for less than 48 percent of global emissions have ratified the accord. The U.N. says a further 14 countries accounting for around 13 percent of emissions have signalled an intention to sign in the coming months.
