In the U.S. state of North Carolina, at least 12 police officers have been injured during violent protests following a fatal police shooting.
Protesters in Charlotte City blocked Interstate-85 and lit fires. The crowd was dispersed by police using flash grenades. Hours earlier, police in riot gear clashed with protesters who threw rocks and water bottles. The violence follows an incident on Tuesday, when an African-American man was shot dead by police during a search for a suspect with an outstanding warrant.
Police said they saw the man getting out of his car with a gun. His relatives denied he had a firearm, saying he was holding a book when he was shot. The police officer involved in the shooting has been placed on paid suspension.
