25th Golden Rooster & Hundred Flowers Film Festival opens

The Golden Rooster & Hundred Flowers Film Festival has just kicked off in the Chinese city of Tangshan. The four-day event includes film screenings, forums and of course, an awards ceremony.

It's one of China's biggest film events of the year: The Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival, now in its 25th edition.

Competition is fierce for the top awards this year, with categories in Best Movie, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Actress.

"The Ghouls", "Monster Hunt" and "Dearest" have all received 6 nominations.

Nominees for Best Actor include Jing Boran of "Monster Hunt", Feng Xiaogang of "Mr. Six" and Deng Chao of "The Dead End".

And Zhao Wei of "Dearest", Bai Baihe of "Go Away Mr. Tumor" and Shu Qi will compete for the crown of Best Actress.

This year, the Domestic Movie Exhibition program features 41 original Chinese productions making their Chinese premiere during the festival.

"I'm a veteran in the movie industry. I'm from the Inner Mongolia Film Studio and have been directing movies for 30 years. This is the first time I've directed such a long film, and I'm looking forward to the reactions," said Yi Huhe, director, "Going back Home to Farm"

The 41 domestic movies range from comedy to documentary. Among them, Breathing, has just came home with the top honor at Vancouver Chinese Film Festival.

"We are the crew of the movie Breathing. We've just returned from the Venice International Film Festival and Vancouver Chinese Film Festival. And... we have very good news to tell everyone: our movie has brought back four awards from Vancouver, and now we are here for the domestic competition," said Jing Ke, actress, "Breathing".

All the movies exhibited will compete in the festival and 8 movies will hold Meet&Greet events with audiences.

This year's festival runs through Saturday.
