Naval forces from China and Russia are in the midst of their eight-day joint exercises on air defense and anti-submarine warfare in the South China Sea.

They held joint exercises on capturing an island on the fourth day. Amphibious warships, landing ships, ship-borne helicopters and amphibious armored assault vehicles took part in the drill.
Military officials say the exercise is carried out under a background of actual combat and the goal of the exercise has been reached. It is part of the “Joint Sea-2016” drill that runs from September 13 to 19.
