Sad news from Rio to pass your way, as Iranian cyclist Bahman Golbarnezhad has died after being involved in an accident during a race.
The 48-year-old crashed on a mountainous stretch of the road cycling course, and he suffered cardiac arrest on the way to the hospital. There will be investigation into why the cyclist crashed.
He also competed in the London Paralympics but didn't medal. He was competing in the C4-5 races for athletes with lower limb impairments or amputations. This was his second race in Rio. Wednesday, he finished 14th in a time trial.
The IPC believes this is the first death at a Paralympics. A moment of silence will also be held at Sunday's closing ceremony in Maracana Stadium for the athlete.
"The reason is being given the ambulance that attended, attended within two minutes, it was the latest, an ambulance that had all intensive care equipment on it," said Philip Craven, IPC President.
