The second day of the national Mid-autumn Festival holiday sees Chinese pouring out of their homes and jamming tourist sites. In Sichuan province, some 20,000 people flocked to Jiuzhaigou, a national park famous for its scenary, in just one morning.

Also doubling its traffic, Chengdu's well-known promenade Kuangzhaixiangzi had more than 65,000 pedestrians Thursday. And Hangzhou, the G20 host city, is predicting 15 million visitors over the holiday. Many are there for the annual phenomenon on the Qiantang River, known as the tidal bore. The huge waves arrived Friday morning.
