The annual Qiantang River tidal bore is underway in eastern China's Zhejiang province. Typhoon Meranti and Malakas mean the water level of Qiantang river is higher than usual. Helped by the strong winds, the tide is traveling at 20 kilometers per hour against the normal current.
It's already reached Laoyancang, one of the best places to watch the tide. The high-speed tides crash against the dam, they bounce back onto the incoming water, forming a spectacular returning tidal bore. The crashing water rises 15 meters into the air, attracting a large number of tourists every year.
