China and Russia are continuing joint military drills in the South China Sea. A special maritime search-and-rescue exercise began on Friday when two Chinese helicopters went in search of a Russian vessel in distress.

The drills also include on-board inspections and even a naval convoy for merchant ships. The eight-day drills are the largest of their kind ever undertaken by the two countries.
