Bratislava is the first European Union summit where the UK is on the outside looking in. Following the country's shock vote to quit the EU, Britain is no longer regarded as part of the bloc's decision-making process. But as CCTV's Richard Bestic reports from London, nearly three months down the road from the Brexit referendum, the UK is still searching for the door marked exit.

It's been a long hot summer since Britain's Brexit vote. But since that day in June you wouldn't be alone in thinking it's all gone rather quiet.

UK Prime Minister Theresa May puts her silence down to tactics.

Although, under scrutiny, government ministers admit they're far from ready to begin the formal exit talks.

"I'm setting up a battalion from scratch, basically, to put it in words you'd be familiar with. I'm recruiting sergeant; the adjutant, well actually it might be a battalion; we'll see when we get there. It will be as big as it needs to be," said David Davies, UK Brexit Minister.

In Parliament even some of the government's own side are having a quiet chuckle at the complex realities of leaving after more than 40 years of EU membership.

"I understand my right honorable friend's difficulties and I (laughter) congratulate him on not rushing anything," said Ken Clarke, UK Brexit Minister.

However, so far Britain's escaped a post-Brexit Armageddon. The first post-referendum unemployment figures from the Office of National Statistics remain low at just under five percent and the numbers employed have increased by a healthy 174,000.In the last year average pay has gone up by just over two percent. The post-Brexit Pound is down, but is stabilizing against the dollar and the Euro. While house prices continue to rise.According to Bank of England Governor Mark Carney, Britain has officially dodged a Brexit recession thanks in part to a cut in interest rates.

"Part of it, is there's a bounce back because the bank took timely, comprehensive and concrete action," said Mark Carney, UK Brexit Minister.

As for the future ? the pressure continues.   European Union Commission President Jean Claude Junker insisting the UK begin exit talks soon.

In London a benign economic climate and a tolerant public have given the government time, ministers will be aware patience is a highly perishable commodity.
