Full coverage: Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival

It's the time of year when millions set off for a short holiday or visit with their families -- Mid-Autumn Festival.

Thursday marks the first day of the three-day national holiday across China. The national railway service estimates around 40 million passengers will travel for this holiday season.

The busiest place in the country will be Shanghai's rail system. The city has added more than 70 extra trips for its three main train stations today.

Another busy terminal is in Shannxi province in the country's northwest. The junction connects to more than 20 provincial capitals in eastern, northeastern and southeastern parts of the country.
